Woven by hand, this extraordinary hammock revels in the colors of the fertile earth. Rich handloomed textures create bands of deep blue, pale yellow and tan. The comfortable hammock is suspended by maguey fiber cords from iron rings. Women from To'ooneel Ixoq create the fabric on backstrap looms, and color it with natural dyes. The blue is derived from indigo, the tan from coconut shell, brown from coffee leaves and the orange from carrots. Jaspe patterns are achieved by tie dying the threads prior to weaving. Because organic dyes are used, colors may vary slightly.
